An imaginatively decorated dormer conversion that's full of colour and personality. "I'm delighted with the result, the house feels considerably bigger, and I feel like I have made the right investment for the future.”- Michelle

The Project

Having lived in her mid terrace house for a few years, Michelle felt she needed to revive her property and create more room. As featured in House Extension, she had always dreamed of having a loft conversion, as her aunt had one when she was a little girl. Following suit, she decided to invest in her own home and do the same! She imagined a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, as well as an expansive kitchen, and interiors that would declare her personal taste. Accordingly, being a part of the design process was an extremely important element for Michelle.

Our Approach

Landmark Lofts were excited to work in tandem with Michelle to create a tailored project that would suit her needs. As Michelle wished, the new space would incorporate a new bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, and a kitchen extension. This would render the kitchen area a much larger space in which she could entertain guests. In the end, Michelle opted to undertake a dormer loft conversion and we suggested lowering the ceilings of the rooms below to give the extra head height needed for the new rooms above.

We also recommended the building of a second storey over the extension to make an L-shaped dormer, which would house the new bathroom. Our creative team of architects and design team worked closely with her to ensure her input at every stage. With our guidance, she applied for planning permission for the kitchen extension, and the loft conversion which would add an extra 339 square feet to her property. This was accepted through permitted development.

Excited to be part of the process, Michelle tells us:

"I liked the rep from Landmark, and I felt safe in their hands – I could tell they were professional and that they wouldn’t have a problem with me being involved with the design.”

The Result

A striking new space that’s uplifting, the dormer conversion was a complete success! With interiors that proclaim Michelle’s distinctive flare, the new development incorporated a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and a kitchen extension. Delighted with an outcome that reveals her personal taste, Michelle has moved up to the loft.

The project also reveals an example of how to create a focal point for a room, whatever the chosen colour scheme, namely, the raised plinth on which the shower sits in the eye-catching en-suite bathroom. In line with Michelle’s desire to create more space, the beautiful sash windows in the kitchen extension create an incredible sense of space.

Ecstatic, Michelle says:

“It used to be that more than one person in the kitchen was a squeeze – now it’s much more comfortable.”
