Beautifully designed, this expansive loft conversion offers longevity as a growing family home. Laura is extremely pleased with the new space, saying: "Our son uses the bedroom as a playhouse.  We call it the playroom really. It's become my playroom too, whether working or an escape."

The Project

With a pressing need for more space for their growing family, Adam and Laura decided it was time to have the attic in their mid terrace property converted as quickly as possible.

For them, the priority was not just gaining two extra bedrooms, it was also about ensuring the spaces would be adaptable to accommodate their changing needs.

They considered creating a loft that would house one large master bedroom and an en-suite bathroom.  However, with a baby on the way they decided that the best option would be an L-shaped dormer which would offer a guest bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and a nursery.

Our Approach

Future-proofing the space at the design stage was a key factor in ensuring the success of this loft conversion.

Adam and Laura had also envisioned that the new room could eventually be used as their son’s bedroom:

"If we stay here, as we now intend to, our son will one day take the main loft room as his bedroom.  Our daughter, the youngest, will then go into his room and the nursery will become a study.”

To ensure this would be possible, we suggested wiring the pod room with internet, phone and TV connections, thereby making the room more adaptable as their needs change.

The Result

A total success, the new loft added over 300 square feet of extra space to Adam and Laura’s property in Teddington, housing an expansive bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, as well as a children’s bathroom.

Each space in this charming loft conversion works independently, tailored to the family's current requirements, with enough flexibility to adapt to their evolving needs.

The attractive guest room works as a serene hub in which they can work or play. The large Velux window directly opposite the wonderful Juliet balcony opens up and bathes the room in natural light. In order to maximise floor space, the room features built-in storage under the eaves.

The bright and airy bathroom is also great example of clever use of space. Here, tiled shelves have been built into the alcoves and the toilet is situated under the Velux window, allowing for the placement of the shower in the highest spot.

The pod room at the back of the house is now a gorgeous nursery for the newest addition to the family.  As they wished, it’s also fully wired for future use as a study.

“Even though it's the topmost room in the house it's become one of the most used spaces for this family.”
